I’m Julie, the creator of Top Knot Photography, and I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m a self-taught photographer with over 10 years of experience, and my love for photography began with the birth of my first child. What started as documenting my own growing family naturally turned into photographing other families, children, and meaningful milestones — a passion I’ve returned to again and again throughout my years of motherhood. I now have four kids of my own, and they continue to inspire the way I photograph and see the world.
Kids have always been my favorite to photograph. They’re expressive, curious, and wonderfully themselves. I’ve been told many times that I’m especially good with children, and I think that comes from giving them space to be who they are. I don’t expect perfect behavior or forced smiles — I meet kids where they’re at and let the moments unfold naturally.
I’m originally from Utah and have lived in Queen Creek for the past five years, and at this point I’m officially rooted here — soaking up the sunny skies, warm months, and the beautiful light Arizona offers year-round. When I’m not behind the camera, I’m usually spending time with my family, traveling, exploring new places, and making memories together. You’ll also often find me with our friendly little Frenchie close by.
Throughout the past 12 years as a stay-at-home mom, I’ve run this business seasonally as my capacity allowed, always returning to it in different seasons of life. Recently, circumstances have shifted, and I’m now offering photo sessions year-round — something I’m truly excited about as I continue to grow and serve families more consistently.
My editing style leans toward bright colors, beautiful light, and sometimes a touch of moodiness, with minimal editing to keep everything natural and true to life. I care deeply about authenticity, both in how a session feels and how the final images look.
