Downtown Gilbert is one of my favorite places for family photos because there is so much variety within such a small area. From clean, modern architecture to colorful murals and downtown streets, every few steps can give your gallery a completely different look.


This recent Downtown Gilbert family photography session is the perfect example.


We started on the rooftop of the parking garage, moved through different areas of Downtown Gilbert, and ended up with a gallery that feels relaxed, colorful, modern, and full of personality.

Family Photos at the Downtown Gilbert Parking Garage



One of the first locations we used during this session was the Downtown Gilbert parking garage, which is also one of my locations for this year’s Fall Mini Sessions in Gilbert, Arizona.


A parking garage probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you imagine family photos, but that’s part of what makes it so good.


The rooftop has beautiful open light, neutral concrete backgrounds, clean lines, and plenty of space to move around. Because the background is so simple, the focus stays on your family.


For this session, we were able to photograph individual portraits of the kids, Mom and Dad together, and the whole family—all within the same space while still creating plenty of variety.

Exploring Downtown Gilbert for Family Photos



After the parking garage, we explored more of Downtown Gilbert.


We photographed the family walking through the streets together, cuddling and laughing in quieter tucked-away areas, and posing in front of some of the colorful walls and murals around downtown.


That’s one of my favorite things about a full Downtown Gilbert family photo session. Your gallery can go from simple and neutral to bright and colorful without having to drive to an entirely different location.


And while I’ll always make sure we get the classic everyone-looking-at-the-camera family photo, I also love incorporating movement.


Walking together, holding hands, kids interacting with their parents and siblings, laughing between poses—those are often the photographs that end up feeling the most like you.

A Great Location for Families With Older Kids



Downtown Gilbert is especially fun for families with older kids because the environment feels a little less formal than a traditional family photo location.


We can move around, change backgrounds, photograph each child individually, and create images that show their personalities without every photo feeling overly posed.


This session included plenty of those individual moments along with parent-and-child photos, sibling photos, couple portraits, and images of the entire family together.


The result is a gallery that tells much more of their story than one single family portrait ever could.

Downtown Gilbert Fall Mini Sessions
