Arizona Family Photos With the Best of Both Worlds



One of my favorite things about photographing families at Water Users is how different it feels from a traditional desert session.


You still get those incredible Arizona mountains and warm, earthy tones, but the water and greenery soften everything. It creates a natural, relaxed look that works beautifully for family photography, extended family sessions, couples, seniors, and individual portraits.


The scenery also changes depending on which direction we shoot. One minute we can have the mountains filling the background, and a few steps later we can photograph along the water or tuck into the surrounding trees and greenery.


That variety is especially helpful during a mini session because we can create several completely different looks in a short amount of time.

A Beautiful Location for Large Families



Water Users is also a great choice for larger and extended families.


There is plenty of open space for those big group photos while still allowing us to break everyone into smaller combinations. We can photograph the entire family together, parents with their kids, siblings, couples, individual children, and all of those little in-between moments that make a gallery feel personal.


And as you can see from this session, you do not have to spend the entire time standing perfectly still and smiling at the camera.


Some of my favorite images are often the ones where everyone is walking together, laughing, interacting, or just being themselves.

What to Wear for Water Users Family Photos



Soft neutrals, denim, blues, creams, warm browns, and muted earthy colors photograph beautifully here.


I especially love how the blue and white outfits in this session complemented the water while still standing out against the warm Arizona mountains.


For family photos, coordinating rather than completely matching usually gives the most natural result. Mixing dresses, denim, textured fabrics, sweaters, and subtle patterns can add dimension while keeping the entire group looking cohesive.
