When people hear 15-minute family mini session, they sometimes wonder if that’s really enough time.
Enough time to get everyone comfortable?
Enough time to get variety?
Enough time if the kids aren’t perfectly cooperative?
The answer is yes.
I recently photographed my own family at one of our upcoming Top Knot Photography mini session locations, and it was the perfect example of how much we can capture in a short amount of time.
In just one quick session, we were able to get traditional family portraits, walking photos, playful moments, different groupings, and those candid in-between shots that often end up being my favorites.
Your kids don’t need to stand still
One of the best things about mini sessions is that they move quickly.
Your kids don’t have to stand perfectly and smile at the camera for 15 minutes. We can walk, play, laugh, move around, and let their personalities come through.
Sometimes the photo where everyone is being a little silly ends up being the one you love most.
One location can still give you plenty of variety
Even though mini sessions happen in one location, that doesn’t mean every photo will look the same.
By changing angles, moving around the space, using different groupings, and taking advantage of that beautiful Arizona sunset light, we can create a gallery that feels varied without needing a long session.
These photos of my own family were all taken in the same spot, and I love how different each moment feels.
So, is 15 minutes enough?
For many families, absolutely.
Mini sessions are perfect if you want updated family photos, holiday card images, or just a few beautiful photographs of this season of life without committing to a full session.
You don’t need perfectly behaved kids.
You don’t need an hour.
You just need a little time together.
I’ll take care of the rest.
